               At least, 100 shops and three cars have been burnt in an early morning fire which engulfed Jakande Market at Ikosi, Ketu in Lagos.    The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a diploma holder, Samuel Onochie, for allegedly sexually assaulting a pregnant woman, Esther (pseudonym), in Jakande, in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of the state. It was learnt that the woman, said to be eight-month-old pregnant, was passing through the area on Sunday at about 6am, when Onochie ambushed her. The 34-year-old suspect, who told the police that he bagged a diploma in law from a university in Benin, Edo State, reportedly threw Esther on the floor and stripped her wrapper.

    A woman was hacked to death by a man with a machete while standing in the hallway of her own building in an unprovoked attacked, say police. Sani was arraigned on a 19-count at the Zamfara High Court 4 on Thursday for allegedly mismanaging N1 billion voted for the repair of Gusau Dam.

                             A teenager has revealed how he was raped several times while in Kirikiri Prison. The teenager, Bashua (surname withheld), said that the incident happened in 2014, when he was just 16-year-old. He said that the policemen doctored his age, to ensure they arraigned and sent him to prison. Bashua had recently regained his freedom, through the intervention of the Stephen and Solomon Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (WHO). The foundation is led by Mr. Giwa Amu, a Lagos-based human rights lawyer.

He was said to have assaulted and raped her. The victim reportedly passed out.

Borno elders have accused beneficiaries of the controversial ‘arms deal’ of sponsoring Boko Haram insurgents, and have called on the Federal Government to ensure they are brought to book. The declaration was contained in a statement by the Chairman of Borno Elders Forum, Ambassador Usman Gaji Galtimari, yesterday titled: ‘Beneficiaries of ‘arms deal’ are sponsors of Boko Haram’ at the end of the elders’ meeting where the forum resolved to throw its support behind the federal government on the fight against Boko Haram insurgence and corruption.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has clarified that the N50 stamp duty imposed on bank customers is to be charged per transaction and not per volume of N1,000. Hence, irrespective of the amount, the sum of N50 is to be charged provided such a transaction is N1000 and above.

The Senate Committee on Police Affairs said it is in custody of names of successful applicants to be enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force from the Inspector General of the Police, Mr Solomon Arase. It said that it would soon meet to scrutinize it to ensure that there is no lopsidedness in the exercise.The committee also said it is working with the ministries of Interior and Justice to ensure that a Trust Fund for the Police Force established to complement the budgetary yearly allocations of the force for optimal performance is well funded.
