                                               The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a Senior Secondary School, SS 2 student, Christian Donatus, aka Inyang, believed to be the leader of a robbery gang. Donatus, a student of Eastern Secondary School, Ediba, Calabar, the state capital, had allegedly led his syndicate to raid a shop, Value Mart, owned by the former First Lady of the state, Obioma Imoke, two weeks ago.

A Nigerian businessman, Michael Titus Igweh, who is based in Indonesia has lamented the unimaginable torture he was subjected to after the police allegedly forced him to confess to possessing heroin. Igweh, a cloth importer, who is facing execution in Indonesia, was reportedly sentenced to death for possessing 5.8 kilograms of heroin.

                   The Lagos State Government on Monday released an official statement warning residents to keep off the Ogun River, near the Kara Cattle Market which was recently blocked by vegetation, saying that the river could open up at any time with dire consequences. Last weekend, the river was taken over by vegetation, caused by a heavy storm, which created a compacted layer over the river. Residents in the area were stunned by the incident and turned the area to a tourist site of some sort, with some residents seen walking on the blocked river and taking pictures.

The Joint Senate Committee on Aviation and Anti-corruption on Monday began probe into the sum of $40Million Afrix Loan and N86.6Million of its counterpart fund said to have been released by the federal government in 2011 to the Ministry of Aviation. The fund which was disbursed by the Central Bank of Nigeria through the aid of Bank of Industry was said to have been misappropriated, a situation that contributed to the collapse of the Aviation industry in Nigeria.

The entertainment industry has just lost an actress and wife of Jide Kosoko, Henrietta Kosoko. The actress died on Monday afternoon after she slumped and was rushed to the hospital. Two postgraduate students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have allegedly drowned at the Elegushi Beach in Lagos. According to their friend, Ginika Okolo, who took to social media to mourn them, Funmi 24, and Shola, 27, were swept away by high tide on Sunday.

Offcials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 34-year-old South African woman, who attempted to smuggle 1.210kg of white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine on her way to South Africa. The alleged drug trafficker, who is an apprentice chef had two parcels of cocaine carefully concealed inside her brassiere on her way to Johannesburg when she was arrested by the anti-drug agency at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.

                               The Legal Adviser, International Secretariat of Amnesty International, London, Mr. Kolawole Olaniyan, has described as inappropriate the recent open criticism of Justice Mohammed Idris of a Federal High Court in Lagos by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Obasanjo had reportedly described the judge as “ignorant and stupid” for entering a judgment, directing all past civilian Presidents from 1999 to 2015 to account for the loot recovered from the late military dictator, Gen. Sani Abacha.

Police in Kano have arrested two housewives, Zainab and Hafsatu Musa, for allegedly torturing and breaking the legs and arms of a two-year-old boy. The women are married to the same man but the child belongs to the third wife, who had packed out of the house. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Magaji Majiya, said the incident occurred on Friday.

  A 24-year-old woman, Nwakaego Ugochukwu, was arraigned in Lagos on Tuesday for sexually molesting a five-year-old girl in her residence. The accused, a factory worker, who resides at Canal Estate, Ago Okota, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge bordering on sexual assault before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Vanguard reports.

                              A shooting at a concert in Austria's westernmost province left two people dead and eleven injured after a gunman opened fire on concertgoers. According to police, the incident which happened at a concert organised by a motorcycle club started with an argument between the gunman and a woman in a nearby car park.

THE NATION A police officer has been removed from a UK anti-corruption unit after claims he was paid for information about a case against jailed former Delta State governor, James Ibori. Ibori is in prison for fraud and money-laundering linked to his time as governor. The Crown Prosecution Service said it had intelligence which “supports the assertion” a Met officer was paid for information. He denied wrongdoing. The CPS previously denied claims it had not handed over all key evidence. Ibori was jailed in 2012 for 13 years for laundering millions in the UK through the purchase of property, a fleet of armoured Range Rovers and a £120,000 Bentley.

Two Reverend Sisters kidnapped along the Benin-Ijebu Ode Expressway at Kajola village in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State was on Sunday morning rescued by the police. Covenant Bassey, the nanny, who abducted one-year-old David Robinson in Calabar, has been arrested by the police after a manhunt. Bassey had fled her employer’s home in the Satellite Town area of Calabar on Friday, taking David along and carting away other valuables.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says one million poor Nigerians will be paid N5000 monthly as it has been appropriated for in the recently passed 2016 budget. In a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, Osinbajo said N68.7 billion has been budget for this purpose.
