Angry Bulawayo man beats up wife for 'visualising' other men during sex

In a shocking case of domestic violence, a Bulawayo woman claimed that her husband was in the habit of physically abusing her as punishment for allegedly seeing visions of other men during sex.

Benenia Mthimukulu (32) made the shocking revelations at a Bulawayo court where she was seeking a restraining order against her husband Butholezwe Ncube (36). Benenia said she had had enough of her husband's abusive behaviour. She said her 11-year marriage to Butholezwe was on the brink of collapse as he was always assaulting her with an iron bar and knobkerrie for no apparent reason.

"I have been customarily married to Butholezwe Ncube for 11 years. He is always beating me and accusing me of seeing other men whenever we are having sex. When beating me up, he uses an iron bar and a knobkerrie and as a result I am afraid that he might end up killing me. I am appealing to this court to protect me by granting me an order which stops him from physically abusing me," she said.

In response, Butholezwe did not dispute his wife's claims. He said problems started when his friend confronted him saying Benenis was forcing his wife into prostitution.

"Yes I bashed her but I didn't use an iron bar and a knobkerrie as she had alleged. When I assaulted her, it was after my friend had approached me saying Benenia was forcing my friend's wife into prostitution. Your Worship, When I assaulted her I just reprimanded her to stop having sex with other men," said Butholezwe.

Presiding magistrate Evylene Mashavakure granted the order in favour of Benenia and ordered Butholezwe to stop physically abusing his wife.
