“We will do our best to make things right” – What Buhari said during meeting with APC governors-elect
The All Progressives Congress governors-elect met with the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja today, May 5.
During the meeting, Buhari assured the party members and the governors-elect that his administration will work assiduously to improve security in the country and also boost the economy.
The President-elect also implored Nigerians to give the incoming government ample time to prove itself and make things right.
“I agree with the chairman that expectation is too high and I have already started nervously explaining to the people that Rome wasn’t built in a day. Since 1999 we have not had a raining day savings for a time like now. Something must really be wrong. Please give the incoming government a chance.
“Bouncing back will be gradual especially with all the backlog of salaries and debts, therefore, we must persuade people to give us the chance to reorganize the economy. Security was our first agenda because without security, there is no country. The girls being recovered from Sambisa forest. These are Nigerians like us being reduced to such misery.
“I found radio more effective than television, no light, flexibility to move tv, etc. We must use the media to keep people informed and to know to enormity of the problems so people need to bear with us while we make things better.
“Our committee taking information from the current government is having challenges just to get basic information like how much we are owing? How many contracts awarded? What’s stage are they? These are information to guide our actions, we don’t need hearsay.
“I’m very happy about the effect of the win on our economy. Stock market shot up, the dollar went lower from 225. I assure you I am doing my best for a smooth transition, we will do our best to make things right.
