Woman sent to prison custody over murder of another woman in market
Magistrate B.O. Ope-Agbe of the Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates' Court in Lagos State, on Friday, remanded a 43-year-old trader, Florence Dada, in prison over the alleged murder of another trader.
The magistrate ordered that the accused should be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons until the court gets the report of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on the case.
"The plea of the accused will not be taken as this court lacks jurisdiction to take up a case of this nature. I therefore adjourn this case till September 15for DPP’s advice," Ope-Agbe said.
Dada, whose address was not stated, is standing trial on a charge of murder.
Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Elizabeth Ekuma, told the court that the offence was committed on July 10 at about 7. 00 a.m. at Jakande Market, Ikosi-Ketu area of Lagos State.
"An argument ensued between the accused and one Simiat Abdulazeezi who is now deceased. Dada pushed Abdulazeezi during a brawl and she hit her head on a positioned vehicle, leading to her death," the prosecutor said.
She noted that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
