The inspector general of police, IGP Solomon Arase, has ordered the deployment of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) to complement the police Safer Highway Patrol to ensure proper policing of the length and breadth of the nation’s highways.
The Force spokesman, Olabisi Kolawole, made this known yesterday in a statement in which she said the IGP is also planning to deploy additional manpower to Kogi and Bayelsa states to ensure crime-free elections in both states.
“Ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states in November and December 2015 respectively, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase, has perfected plans to deploy additional manpower to Kogi and Bayelsa states to ensure crime-free election in both states.
“The police leadership has also directed the deployment of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) to complement the Safer Highway Patrol to ensure proper policing of the length and breadth of the nation’s highways,” Kolawole said.
According to her, the police boss who briefed the members of the police management team noted that the measures became imperative to ensure proper monitoring of activities leading to a hitch-free election in both states.
“This is in addition to stepping up police visibilities on our highways in the Yuletide, and to systematically decapitate hoodlums taking advantage of the season to unleash terror on innocent Nigerians,” she said.
