According to Fusion, scientists in Colombia have developed a bra that can help detect breast cancer.

How you ask?

Well, it will be equipped with infra-red sensors that will track the temperature of your breasts, and if abnormalities pop up, a warning signal is delivered to encourage you to see a doctor.

Maria Camila Cortes, an engineering student at Colombia’s National University who has been working on the bra explained the reasoning for the sensors to Fusion. She said, “When you have cells in your mammary glands that are anomalous, the body needs to send more blood to that specific part of the body, and the temperature of this organ increases.” Increased temperature equals a possible sign of a problem.
The bra not only has the sensors, but also three small lights that can tell you if all is well with your breasts after a few minutes of wear. Of course, green is good; yellow means the test is inconclusive, and another one needs to be done, and red means you need to have a medical exam done to ensure that everything is okay. A chip in the bra would record your temperature each time it’s taken so that you could share its findings with your physician. It sounds like an app of some sort will come with the bra so that you can keep up with all of this information, outside of looking down at your boobs. Only makes sense!

Through the bra, Cortes, along with other researchers on the team, are aiming to help provide early detection to save lives. And while the bra is being tested at National University, there still is no set name for it, or a set date to release it to the public. However, if all goes well with testing and they are finally able to sell it on the market, researchers say they would like to do so at an affordable price.

I mean, if you’re going to pay close to $50 for a Victoria’s Secret bra, why not gather up a chunk of your coins for a bra that could save your life?
