NPFL: Pillars Rout 3SC, Enyimba,Wikki, Wolves Win


It was a day to forget for Ibadan side, Shooting Stars Sports Club, after they were mauled 6-0 by Kano Pillars Football Club of Kano at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, yesterday, while Enyimba ran out 1-0 winners over Akwa United at the Nest of Champions.

Playing before a full house at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, Mohammed Baba Ganaru’s wards tok no prisoners, as Ifeanyi Matthew got the opening goal. Debutante, Emmanuel Edmund, followed up with a hat-trick in the 37th, 58th and 82nd minutes to put the former champs on their way to a joyous evening.

Substitutes Adamu Mohammed and Nafiu Ibrahim also had their own share of the cake off 3SC, with late goals as Pillars humbled Kadiri Ikhana’s men to go fourth on the NPFL log.

Meanwhile, Enyimba continued in the form that saw them hold on and edge out Etoile du Sahel form the CAF Champions League mid-week to condemn Akwa United to a home loss, through Christian Pyagbara’s 34th minute strike.

Abia Warriors moved into second place, after garnering 23 points, via a 3-1 win over season revelation MFM FC.

Uche Ihuarulam, Stanley Okoro and Ndifreke Effiong showed up for the Warriors while Nelson Kenedium got the visitor’s consolation goal.

Anthony Okpotu’s late goal from the spot for Lobi Stars denied Niger Tornadoes the chance of earning their first point on the road this season.

In Bauchi, Wikki Tourists came at FC Ifeanyiubah with a vengeance, smashing three goals past them at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi.

Godwin Obaje scored the opener while Abubakar Lawal helped himself with a brace.

First half goals by Goodluck Onamado and John Odumegwu handed Warri Wolves a two-goal victory over Giwa FC, who have now suffered their sixth defeat of the season and are now in the bottom-four.

A solitary strike by the dreadlocked Ifeanyi Onuigbo just before the hour mark proved to be the only goal in Heartland’s 1-0 win over Sunshine Stars.

Rivers United were closing in on their fourth away point of the season, until James Itodo’s long throw-in for Plateau United was turned in for an own goal in added time.

Plateau United had taken the lead through Benjamin Turba on 14 minutes before Chinonso Okonkwo cancelled it with 10 minutes to regulation time.
