Presidency Hails Nigerian-born UK Boxer

The Presidency has congratulated Nigerian-born British boxer, Anthony Femi Joshua, who recently won the International Boxing Federation (IBF) world heavyweight belt after defeating incumbent champ, Charles Martin. A statement made available by the senior special Assistant to the President on Diaspora and Foreign Relations, Honourable Abike Dabiri Erewa, said that Joshua’s win reflected hard work, tireless dedication and brave heart.

“Your victory is well-deserved and I wish you the very best in the future.’’

Joshua, born to a Nigerian mother and father, spent his early years in Nigeria before returning to the UK. Joshua is now the current IBF heavyweight champion, who also holds the British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles.

Joshua is ranked the world’s sixth best heavyweight boxer by The Ring magazine and the second boxer in history to win a professional world heavyweight title doubling as the Olympic champion at the top weight.

Joshua will be defending his title on June 25, 2016.
