Woman killed by train while taking selfie on tracks

A 19-year-old woman posing for a photo on the railroad tracks was hit and killed by a trainon Saturday afternoon.

The woman, whose name has yet to be released, was reportedly posing for a selfie onSanmao track in Shanliantang Village, Foshan, southeast China's Guangdong province.The section of the railway is famous for its beautiful rose blossoms.





Witnesses said that the woman did not realize a train was approaching. There were manyvisitors taking photos alongside the tracks, and some people shouted warnings, but no onesucceeded in getting the woman’s attention.

                                        

An employee got off the train to examine the woman and call the police immediately afterthe accident occurred. Later, she was sent to a nearby hospital by ambulance. According tothe chief nurse on duty that day, the victim showed no sign of life upon her arrival at thehospital.

      

This is not the first time a pedestrian has been killed by a train on that section of thetracks, said a resident of the village. More and more visitors, especially young people, arefinding their way onto intercity train lines, especially those near flowerbeds and springblossoms. They like to photograph themselves in the scenic spots.

      

Local police warned people that the new trend of taking selfies while standing on traintracks puts many people’s lives at risk.
