A HARARE man, Action Nyamayaro, yesterday stunned the magistrates' court when he revealed his former wife, Pamela Makichi, would demand to have sexual intercourse with him despite the presence of his son with whom they were sharing a single room. Nyamayaro told Harare magistrate Trevor Nyatsanza that Makichi would sometimes get possessed to the extent of demanding to have sexual intercourse with him throughout the night, blaming evil spirits for her actions.

At least a hundred people were injured when two trains collided near Johannesburg’s Booysens train‚ ER24 paramedics said on Friday. Various emergency services were on the scene and people were being treated‚ mostly for minor injuries. The accident happened between the Booysens and Crown Mines stations‚ according to reports. It appears that one of the trains was derailed. The cause of the accident is still to be established.

French Formula One driver Jules Bianchi died Friday night from head injuries he suffered in a crash at last October's Japanese Grand Prix, after spending nine months in a coma. Bianchi, who would have been 26 next month, had been fighting for his life under controlled medical conditions in the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire hospital in his home city of Nice, southern France. He is the first Formula One driver to die from a racing accident since triple world champion Aryton Senna lost his life in 1994. "Jules fought right to the very end, as he always did, but today his battle came to an end," the Bianchi family said in a statement posted on Facebook in the early hours of Saturday.

A magistrates' court in Alexandra, Johannesburg, South Africa, has sentenced a school teacher, Philippine Rakosa, to one year imprisonment for caning a grade two pupil. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the Sowetan newspaperon Friday in Pretoria said that the teacher was jailed on Wednesday for hitting an eight-year-old pupil with a hosepipe for failing a class test. The paper said the incident occurred on February 8, 2014, at Gordon`s Primary School in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg. The publication quoted the Magistrate, Gideon Suhnetler, as saying that it was time teachers realised that corporal punishment was outlawed in South Africa.

AHEAD of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the United States tomorrow, Human Rights Watch has written to US president Barack Obama asking him to discuss violence and corruption in Nigeria and make Buhari endorse gay rights as issues Nigeria must address. In a letter dated July 15, 2015 signed by its Executive Director, Kenneth Roth, the international rights organisation told Obama that Buhari’s visit offered an opportunity to re-evaluate US-Nigeria partnership, while asking him to address the three issues and “speak publicly about them.”

There was pandemonium in Kastina-Ala town of Benue State yesterday when gunmen believed to be political thugs, shot and killed a chieftain of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Atoza Ihindan. Also, some unknown gunmen on, Monday, shot and killed the Tor Geri of Katsina-Ala town. Tor Geri is the mayor of the area. The PDP leader, Chief Atoza was the political godfather of former Governor Gabriel Suswam and chairman of the PDP Elders’ Forum in the Benue Northeast senatorial district. There was riot in the town as shops and other businesses were shut.

A clergy, Pastor Yohanna Buru yesterday led a team of Christian leaders to distribute food and drinks and gave other humanitarian assistance to street beggars and Muslim inmates at Mallam Niggers Rehabilitation Centre in Rigasa, Kaduna, as part of activities marking the Sallah celebration. Over 1,000 take-away food pack and drinks distributed to the destitutes and inmates. According to Pastor Buru, “This is the time of happiness and we have to make them happy by assisting them with foodstuff. We have observed that most of them, even on Sallah day, have to go out and beg for food to eat.

The 32 unclaimed bodies of the victims of the May 31 petrol tanker accident at Upper Iweka, Anambra State, were laid to rest in a mass grave at Afor Adike field, Obosi Cemetery in Idemili North Local Government Area yesterday. The victims were burnt beyond recognition. The burial, sponsored by Anambra State government, drew sympathizers from across the state, including government functionaries who were present to witness the ceremony.

Truck loads of food stuff donated to workers and other categories of people in Osun State by the Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Dr. David Oyedepo, have arrived in the state for distribution. The State Pastor of the LFCW, Olumuyiwa Emmanuel, announced the arrival of the food aid on Wednesday during the mid-week service of the church in Osogbo, the state capital. The cleric said the bishop donated the food items which included rice, vegetable oil, tomato pastes and others for distribution to church members and other residents of the state who were experiencing lack. He stated that the food would be distributed at the church premises on Sunday (tomorrow) after service.

Six-year-old Promise Eboye, should not be alive, at least going by the four gory looking stab injuries on his back. The boy survived an attack that would have killed even an adult had the injuries been sustained in vital parts of the body. Promise, a bright and sharp boy lives with his mother and step-father in Kollington area of Ijaiye, Lagos, while his biological father lives in Benin, Edo State. At about 8am on Monday, Promise’s mother, Comfort, stabbed her son four times, inflicting life-threatening injuries on the boy’s body.

      SEX traffickers who smuggled at least 250 women into the country to work out of 50 addresses have been sentenced. The Crown Prosecution Service broke the "sophisticated" operation with the help of the Met Police and Hungarian authorities in a joint operation. The gang brought women to the UK to be sexually exploited in London and Peterborough. Some were forced into prostitution against their will – and were forced into handing over half their earnings. Eleven defendants have now been sentenced at Southwark Crown Court in London, the CPS said. They have been jailed for a total of 34 years and six months.

    Depraved jihadis fighting for the Islamic State have forced a young child to savagely behead a Syrian regime army officer in the first execution of its kind. The sickening murder is understood to have taken at the Western Hir Palace in the province of Homs after the soldier was captured by jihadis at the nearby Al-Bosayri army checkpoint. ISIS have increasingly used young boys in their gruesome executions, with some children no older than 12 being forced to shoot the terror group's opponents at point blank range. However using a child to carry out a brutal beheading with a knife is a sickening new low for ISIS.

A 29-year-old house wife, identified simply as Vero, has been accused of infidelity in Irri community, in the Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State. Her husband, identified as Ben, on Thursday told the elders of the community that he caught his wife in illicit love affair in an uncompleted building. Sources said Umukoro insisted that the elders must dissolve the marriage in line with the tradition of the Isoko people.

There are reports that a twin explosion just rocked Damaturu, at the Eid prayer ground in Damaturu, Yobe state capital. This is happening just hours after a bomb blast at the Gombe main market on Thursday evening that left no fewer than 48 people dead. Eyewitnesses say people were killed. The Eid ground hit by the blast is located at an area called phase-one along Maiduguri Road.

Department of State Security (DSS) operatives yesterday invaded the Abuja home of the immediate past National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), to arrest him. There were speculations last night that Dasuki had been arrested, but The Nation could not confirm it. It was learnt that the attempt to arrest Dasuki was in connection with the probe of ex-Service Chiefs by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. The Nation yesterday reported exclusively that a probe of the former chiefs was in the smithy. A highly-placed source said the movement of the ex-Service Chiefs might be restricted to the country, pending the conclusion of preliminary investigations into how military budgets were run in the last five years. The DSS operatives stormed Dasuki’s Asokoro Quarters compound at about 7.30pm. He was breaking his Ramadan fast.

The two biggest mobile telecommunication operators in the country, MTN Nigeria and Globacom, generated over N9bn for the local music industry in 2014 through the monetisation of caller tunes. While MTN generated over N5bn for the Nigerian musical artistes who sell their contents as caller tunes on its platform, Globacom is said to have brought in about N4bn. The money generated for the industry was in form of royalties paid to music artistes who served or are still serving as brand ambassadors to the two telecoms companies in the year.

A Red Cross official has confirmed that more than 30 people were killed in the two blasts at a market in Gombe, Gombe state today. Nobody has claimed responsibility for the blasts, which went off around 5:30pm (1630 GMT), but they bear the hallmarks of attacks by Boko Haram. The militant Islamists have killed thousands in a six-year insurgency in the country’s northeast. In the last two months, they have killed close to 900 people.

        According to the story, a Republic of Benin soldier named Corporal Chabi Séni stripped five girls naked and tied them to a tree after accusing them of stealing from their madam who owns a bar and who is his wife. The soldier decided their punishment would be to parade them naked and have someone take photos of the girls while the bar manager is seen kneeling in the background.
