Man, identified as Jacob Nwachukwu from Abala in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, has cut off his wife’s left hand over allegation of infidelity. The man’s wife, Mrs Nwadiokeonu Nwachukwu, is now at a hospital in Aba, while her severed hand had been taken to her husband’s village at Abala for burial. The incident happened, Monday, at Ogbor Hill Area in Aba, where the woman had lived for years, while the husband lived at their Abala village.

The Governor Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom State has failed in his bid to stop the Election Petition Tribunal from sitting in Abuja. The tribunal in its ruling on Friday on the motion by Udom challenging the jurisdiction, dismissed it for being misconceived and misplaced . The Governor had through his counsel, Adebgoyega Awomolo (SAN) challenged the jurisdiction of the tribunal for sitting in the nation's capital instead of Uyo the Akwa Ibom State capital, as provided by section 285 (2) of the 1999 constitution .

Magistrate B.O. Ope-Agbe of the Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates' Court in Lagos State, on Friday, remanded a 43-year-old trader, Florence Dada, in prison over the alleged murder of another trader. The magistrate ordered that the accused should be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons until the court gets the report of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on the case.

Nigerian girls rescued from prostitution in Burkina Faso

                                6 Nigerian girls have been returned to the country from Burkina Faso where they were allegedly taken to work as prostitutes by a woman named Balikis. While re-uniting the girls with their parents in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday, the Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Oyo State Command, Innocent Akatu, said the girls were tricked to leave Nigeria, adding that the victims did not tell their parents about the journey. Akatu said the girls refused to engage in prostitution in Ouagadougu, Burkina-Faso, hence were locked in a room by the trafficker.

                   A 52 year-old man, Gilbert Maduako, has lost his wife, Oluchi and five children after his friend, Akwusi Aluwaogu, who allegedly snatched Oluchi and took away the children claiming that he was their father. The incident happened at Ugwuakwu Village in Umuchu in Aguate Local Government in Anambra State, southeast Nigeria. The marriage which produced those children, collapsed after Oluchi and her children moved to Aluwaogu’s home who is an indigene of Akokwa town in Imo State and introduced the man to her children as their real father.

   A 63-year-old Indian woman has been dismembered and beheaded by machete-wielding villagers who accused her of practising witchcraft. Seven people have been arrested over the death of Moni Orang, a mother of five who was seized from her home in the northeastern state of Assam on Monday after local priests said she was casting spells. 'The attackers armed with machetes and other crude implements descended on the village and took away Moni Orang from her house and then brutally killed her,' senior police official Manabendra Dev Roy told AFP.

Dr Abimbola Silva was the first female medical doctor in Nigeria. In 1979, she was honoured with the Officer of the Order of the Niger.

Five people were arrested at a demonstration between hundreds of white supremacists and an African-American activist group that faced-off Saturday on the steps of the South Carolina Statehouse. Neo-Nazis and members of a Ku Klux Klan chapter were among those chanting “White power” while toting Confederate flags and swastikas from behind a barricade. They were met by members of the Black Educators for Justice as state troopers watched over both groups. South Carolina Highway Patrol counted at least 2,000 attendees at the peak of the rally despite an urge by Gov. Nikki Haley to boycott the klan’s “spectacle” scheduled earlier this week.

Dallas man celebrating 21st birthday accidentally shoots himself dead

A Texas man who had just turned 21 is dead after accidentally shooting himself at his birthday party, authorities said. Joseph Perez died at Methodist Hospital early Saturday, police say. The young man had been firing a gun during the celebration, but family members were able to take the weapon away from him. Later, he managed to find the gun and somehow shot himself with it. Alcohol was a factor in the shootings, police said.
