Speaking during the donation of gifts to SON by Intertek Limited to mark the 10th year anniversary of SON Conformity Assessment Programme (SONCAP) in Lagos, the Director-General of SON, Dr Joseph Odumodu said importers of sub-standard products will henceforth be sent to jail, adding that SON has been empowered by the Federal Government.

Lagos tanker explosion razes buildings, vehicles

Five vehicles, three shops and one house in Ojuelegba, Lagos were burnt on Saturday after a tanker containing 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, spilled and caught fire. Bus conductor allegedly stabs passenger to death over transport fare

A 30-year-old man, Omoyeni Ojo, has allegedly been stabbed to death by an unidentified bus conductor in the Kilo area of Surulere, Lagos, during a heated exchange on transport fare. The incident occurred on Saturday, November 28, 2015. The late Omoyeni, it was learnt, boarded a commercial bus at Ojuelegba area of Surulere and handed the conductor a N500 note in payment of the fare. The conductor was said to have told the deceased that he had no lower denomination of the currency to pay Omoyeni his balance.

Cambodian Doctor Jailed For 25 Years For Infecting 300 People With HIV

A Cambodian court has convicted an unlicensed medical practitioner of murder and sentenced him to 25 years in prison for spreading HIV among almost 300 villagers. A spokesman for the court in the northwestern province of Battambang said Yem Chrin, 56, was found guilty on Thursday of torture and cruel behaviour resulting in death, intentionally spreading HIV and practising medicine without a licence.

Senate Proposes 2-Year Jail Term For ‘Abusive Statements’ On Social Media

The Senate yesterday passed for second reading a bill seeking two years imprisonment with an option of N2 million fine for Nigerians who post “abusive statements” on the social media. According to the bill, it will be unlawful to submit any petition, statement intended to report the conduct of any person for the purpose of an investigation, inquiry without a duly sworn affidavit confirming the content to be true and in accordance with the Oaths Act.
